This stock was so attractive when it was at its infancy and there were not much competition in the market. Now surge of competitors just came up. In fact I bought an apple watch for my wife who used to have fitbit Charge HR. When it broke a piece of it holding the digital display, she kept asking me of replacing it with the apple watch. So I got an apple watch for her for around $500 much expensive than her previous fitbit Charge HR. The apple watch Series 3 was so cool with all the possibility of receiving calls from your phone and even calling through it at the same time using it as your fitbit. The only difference with fitbit is that it did not have the sleep tracking. But other than that apple watch was so good with all the animation you could get. I kind of of remember the old times when we had the DOS (Disk Operating System) PC (Personal Computers compared to the Windows computer. Fitbit seemed to be the DOS and the Apple Watch is the Windows version. My wife laughed on this. Product wise it seemed fitbit may have introduced the wonders of using the watches but lagged behind in advancing it, the way apple does.
Also quality wise they may have suffered for some of their newly introduced Fitbit SURGE. Last June my wife purchased a SURGE as a Father's day gift for me. It was so nice and looked pretty awesome for me. Especially, that it was my first time to have a fitbit watch. Before I am going to reveal the quality debacle, I would say kodus to Fitbit, because I was able to lose 24lbs from 178lbs to 154lbs in 5months of using it with my running and walking exercises. Maybe I would have been stuck with my 178lbs if I did not have the fitbit SURGE.
Now, to the negative side, of which fitbit may probably have corrected already. Just recently the wrist band of fitbit SURGE had these blisters. They really looked horrible and I had to contact their customer support to be able to get the replacement as what the other customers had experienced. The problem was actually a quality defect on the material of the wrist band. Nov. 21, 2017, the customer representative by the name "Da" told me that I qualified for a replacement and that it would be around 5-7 days that the replacement would come. I waited up until now, Dec. 6, 2017 and so far, there is no replacement yet that ever arrived. Fitbit is facing a lot of competition with small time makers and big time makers. Product wise, they need to improve. if they can introduce a new product that can disrupt the market, then it might be the catalyst it needed to rebound higher with their stock.
So far the chart is looking a bit bullish. It's like creating a cup and handle formation and making higher lows (Aug - Nov 2017). At $6.85 it is trying to breakout. If this breaks out and maintains the price higher than 5.86 without collapsing into this zone then there is a possibility that it's going to start ramping up. Sep. 2017 it broke out the 200SMA (red dashed line on the daily chart). Since then it rode the 200SMA until Nov. 2017 then tried breaking out at $6.85. So far there is no catalyst yet and there is no sign of a huge green volume to push the stock price higher. But this chart should be on everyone's screen, because once it pops then it will be a long run.
